Ultrasonic rhinoplasty, as almost everyone knows, is the surgery that modifies and corrects the shape of the nose and is one of the most demanded aesthetic surgical techniques by both women and men. Currently, the osteotomy is performed ultrasonically, which significantly reduces inflammation and the appearance of post-operative bruising. This technique can be used to reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the angle between the nose and the upper lip or narrow the nostrils, as well as correct congenital problems, trauma and respiratory problems.
Rhinoplasty is one of the most complex procedures in cosmetic surgery and requires a great deal of training and experience, as during rhinoplasty we are not only looking for an aesthetic result but also a functional result, i.e. that the patient breathes correctly after the intervention.
In some cases, the person who comes to the consultation only wants to correct the aesthetic part and has no previous respiratory problems, so we have to be extremely careful not to cause any.
In other cases, as well as wanting to correct the aesthetic part, the person has previous respiratory difficulties and we must correct them at the same time as we correct the aesthetic part.
In this sense, the preoperative visit is fundamental to correctly evaluate the aesthetic and functional situation of each person and also to establish an active communication between what each patient wants from the aesthetic point of view and the possibilities we can offer them. Nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is one of the most complex techniques in aesthetic surgery. It requires an important knowledge of facial anatomy and especially of the three-dimensional anatomy of the nose in order to achieve good results. It requires a high level of training, specialisation and experience in order to carry out the appropriate steps to avoid complications that may leave long-term aesthetic sequelae. Small gestures on the nose such as a half-millimetre resection of a cartilage can mean the difference between a good aesthetic result and a long-term deformity. That is why it is essential to be sure about the surgeon’s experience, training and knowledge before undergoing surgery.
Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is a surgical technique aimed at correcting defects in the nose that uses a special ultrasound-operated device to perform the nasal fracture. This leads to a postoperative period with less inflammation and less bruising than classic rhinoplasty.
After a complete rhinoplasty, plugs are placed to prevent bleeding, plaster and occlusive dressings. Two days after the operation, the plugs are removed and five days later, the visible stitches made under the nose between the two nostrils are removed. Finally, nine or ten days after the surgery, the plaster or splint is removed.
No, it is not particularly painful, but it is uncomfortable due to the fact that you have to wear a plaster or splint over the recently operated nose, and due to the swelling and bruising that usually appear a few hours after the operation.
In general, an experienced surgeon can modify a nose not as far as he wants, but almost. There are some limits in complex noses, such as African noses if we want to give it a Caucasian appearance or those noses that have been very deformed by a previous traumatism, logically in these cases there are technical limitations that will not allow us to take that nose towards a certain model.
However, in all cases, the objective of the intervention is discussed with the patient and can be carried out without too much difficulty, always, of course, in the hands of experienced surgeons.
