Anal reconstruction is a step further in anal aesthetics. Some people have undergone an operation for haemorrhoids, fissure or fistula. As a result of these interventions we can find very altered anal margins, with excess skin and small peripheral cavities. Anal reconstruction consists of carrying out the aesthetics mentioned in the previous paragraph, but in the context of the sequelae of previous surgery. The intervention is similar to anal aesthetics, but in some cases it is also necessary to reconstruct the muscular plane to avoid small peripheral cavities.
It is an operation that is generally performed on an outpatient basis and under local anaesthesia, but depending on the case and when the anatomical alteration is very important, it requires epidural anaesthesia and hospitalisation for 24 hours.
Anal aesthetics is a surgical procedure aimed at regularising the anal margin and achieving a flat, smooth and youthful surface. With the passage of time or even the presence of a haemorrhoidal nodule, folds or excess skin may appear on the anal margin, preventing proper hygiene and giving it an aesthetically negative appearance.
It is a simple procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis and under local anaesthesia, which consists of removing the excess skin and making a small suture on the anal margin, thus obtaining a smooth and flat appearance.
There are two methods for anaesthetising the area, either by injecting a local anaesthetic into the anal margin or by applying an anaesthetic cream beforehand to soften the anaesthetic injection punctures before starting the operation.
The postoperative period is not painful, but we must bear in mind that faecal matter with a high bacterial load passes through the anal margin, so thorough hygiene is essential.
Our recommendation is to avoid anal intercourse during the healing period and to avoid cleaning the anal margin by dragging. We also recommend sitz baths, washing the anal margin thoroughly after each bowel movement without drag drying and keeping the area as dry as possible.

Intercourse should be avoided for at least 4 to 6 weeks and whenever the specialist doctor says it is safe to do so, after monitoring the area and checking that it is completely healed.
It depends on the patient’s preference. There must be a perfect interpretation by the surgeon of what the patient wants, how far they wish to go with the aesthetics and what impact this may have on their future relations. If what is desired is a very smooth and tight anal margin, it may be that subsequent anal intercourse will be less elastic and more painful. On the other hand, if you usually have anal intercourse, it is best to bear in mind that the anal margin must be sufficiently elastic for these relations to be pleasurable and occur normally.
