Mentoplasty is a procedure that aims to increase the projection of the chin. It is performed on both men and women. Normally in women it is combined with cheekbones augmentation to achieve the triangular appearance typical of the female facial structure. When retrognathia (a posterior projection of the chin) is present, the use of fillers or prostheses is very useful for its correction.
Filler materials have the advantage that they are placed in the office by injection, they are cheaper and easier to place. The prostheses are definitive, have a long-lasting result and the intervention is simple, performed under local anaesthesia and on an outpatient basis. This technique can be performed through two different access routes: through the inside of the mouth or through the lower edge of the chin.
In the first case, the advantage is that there are no visible scars, but the disadvantage is that we place the prosthetic material through the mouth with the consequent risk of infection. When we make the incision at the edge of the chin, we are working in a clean area and therefore the risk of infection is reduced, but when the chin is lifted, a small scar can be seen. The results of mentoplasty are evident from the first moment.

No. It is one of the least risky cosmetic surgery procedures as it is performed under local anaesthesia.
The risks are always slight and are related to the use of prostheses: the possibility of displacement, infection or extrusion. When the prosthesis is placed transcutaneously through an incision under the chin, the risk of infection is greatly reduced.
It is a procedure that normally does not cause bruising or swelling as the area we work on is very limited.
Yes, at our Institute we only work with prostheses of recognised prestige with CE marking and manufactured in the European Union with extensive quality controls and long-term duration. In the case of solid silicone prostheses, these have the advantage that there is no long-term breakage or gel leaks as they are manufactured with a solid base which makes them last longer.
