Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is a surgical technique performed to give a firm and uniform abdominal contour. There are two different techniques, the simple abdominoplasty whose scar is horizontal and is hidden in the underwear and the abdominoplasty performed on people who have lost a lot of weight whose pattern is in a fleur-de-lis and which combines a vertical incision with a horizontal incision.

The simple abdominoplasty not only removes excess skin and fat but must also treat the abdominal wall. Most of the time when we perform an abdominoplasty, the people who suffer the alteration of the abdominal wall have had pregnancies or are of intermediate or advanced age, which causes the abdominal tissues, muscle and fascial tissues to give way and bulge the abdomen. If we only treat the skin, the result will be unsatisfactory, so when lifting the skin of the abdomen we must make two to four suture planes to close the abdomen properly and not only the anterior part is smooth and taut, but also the flank is also narrowed and produces a slender silhouette.

Finally, we must also consider the resection of the skin below the navel and the closure of the musculature in the midline, the performance of liposculpture by vibramatic, a technique assisted by a special device that provides greater safety and a more comfortable postoperative period with greater regularisation of the skin. This technique ensures that the skin is regularly adhered to the abdomen and that the muscles can be seen on the surface of the abdomen.

Lastly, it is important that the scar is hidden under the underwear, for which a good pattern in the resection areas is very important to achieve a good result. For the first few days, a bandage must be worn in the operating theatre, which is removed a week after the operation, followed by a compression garment that must be worn for at least one to two months after the surgery. The stitches are removed after two weeks, although most of them are reabsorbable and do not need to be removed.
