Breast Lift After Weight Loss
After major weight loss, the breasts sag a great deal and lose almost all their volume: often, little more than an envelope of loose, stretch-marked skin is left. A breast lift (mastopexy) lifts the breast, removes the excess skin and restores volume with an implant. Dr. Jesús Lago operates at Clínica 3 de Mayo in Madrid, for patients from the UK, Ireland and beyond.

How a Breast Lift After Weight Loss Works
This is very different from an aesthetic breast lift: the breast has lost almost all its volume, and there is little breast tissue or fat left. That is why we almost always add an implant, and cover it with as much tissue as possible.
We divide the breast tissue into three flaps that support and cover the implant. We place the EUROSILICONE implant under the muscle, so it stays covered by your own tissue, hidden beneath the skin.

The price of a breast lift after weight loss covers your preoperative assessment, evaluation consultation, surgery, hospital stay, the EUROSILICONE implant, follow-up appointments and a follow-up ultrasound.
After massive weight loss, the breast sits much lower and loses almost all its volume: often only an envelope of loose skin remains. We have to lift the breast, remove the excess skin and rebuild volume all at once, with very little tissue to work with. It is one of the most demanding types of breast lift.
See the aesthetic breast liftIn most cases, yes: after major weight loss, the breast has lost too much volume to regain a rounded shape without one. We confirm this at your consultation, based on an assessment of your breasts.
We cover it with as much tissue as possible: it sits under the muscle and is covered by the breast tissue, divided into three flaps. This is the main challenge of the operation, because after major weight loss there is little tissue left to cover it.
As with any breast surgery, a fluid collection (seroma), a hematoma or an infection can occur, as can poor healing of part of the areola due to a reduced blood supply (areolar necrosis). A surgeon experienced in surgery after major weight loss reduces these risks.
The final shape is reached after one year: that is how long it takes for the swelling (edema) to go down and for the breast and implant to settle into position. At that point, we recommend a follow-up mammogram.
