You are traveling from the UK, Ireland, France or another country. Clínica 3 de Mayo plans your care so that you only travel once: a first consultation by video call, a trip to Madrid for your operation, then follow-up from Madrid once you are home.
Care That Works from a Distance
Your first consultation takes place by video call, from home. You then travel to Madrid for your operation. Once you are back home, your follow-up continues remotely.

From Home
Dr. Sara Vázquez sees you by video call, explains the operation and its risks, and sends you a quote.

Traveling to Madrid
You book your own travel. Plan to arrive at least twenty-four hours beforehand for your preoperative tests at Fuensanta.

The Day of Your Operation
You arrive at 7 a.m. on the day of your operation, having fasted since the night before. Dr. Jesús Lago comes to see you in your room, and he lets the person with you know when the operation is over.

Until Your Final Checkup
Most operations involve one night in the hospital. You then return to your rented apartment with the person accompanying you, and travel home after your final checkup.

Follow-Up by Video Call
We continue to see you by video call for up to two years. With our agreement, a doctor near you can also see you. If the doctor feels it is necessary, we will see you in person in Madrid.
Our Recommendations
Please stay in Madrid until your final checkup. For your comfort and safety, we ask you to bring a family member or someone close to you.
Someone by your side
A relative or friend stays with you until you travel home after your operation.
Your accommodation
You rent a comfortable apartment, with an elevator or no higher than the second floor. We can advise you on choosing one.
Follow-Up Once You Are Home
We continue your follow-up from Madrid. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact us at any time.
Ongoing follow-up
In person, by video call, by phone and on WhatsApp, from Madrid.
If you need revision surgery
If a further operation is needed, you come back to Madrid. After phalloplasty, revision surgery is included in the price: it is usually needed because of a complication affecting the urinary channel (the urethra), which is a genuine health problem. Other revisions, often for aesthetic reasons, are at your own expense, though the cost is generally moderate.
In an emergency
If you need urgent treatment, go to your local hospital and take your GHIC or EHIC (Global or European Health Insurance Card) with you if you have one. If it can safely wait a few days, contact us and we will arrange treatment in Madrid with you.
