SADI-S
SADI-S removes a large part of the stomach, leaving a narrow tube, then connects the stomach outlet to a lower section of the intestine with a single connection. It is designed for significant weight loss and also improves diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Dr. Jesús Lago operates at Clínica 3 de Mayo in Madrid, for patients from the UK, Ireland and beyond.

How SADI-S Works
SADI-S goes one step further than a gastric sleeve: as well as reducing the stomach, it shortens the path food takes through the intestine.
First, we shape the stomach into a tube, exactly as in a gastric sleeve. We then connect the duodenum (the start of the intestine, just after the stomach) to a lower section of the intestine with a single connection, keeping the pylorus, the valve that holds food in the stomach. Keeping the pylorus reduces dumping, the unwell feeling that comes on when food passes through too quickly, and means most foods are better tolerated.

The price of SADI-S covers your preoperative assessment, evaluation consultation, surgery, hospital stay, follow-up appointments, two years of nutritional follow-up, weight loss surgery aftercare with two appointments with a psychologist, and a 24-hour emergency line for two years. If needed, it also covers an endoscopy, a blood test and an ultrasound.
With SADI-S, there is only one connection to make and monitor, compared with two in other intestinal bypass techniques. This makes the operation simpler.
SADI-S keeps your body's natural control in place: the pylorus holds food in the stomach while it is being digested, then releases it gradually into the intestine. Procedures that remove the pylorus lose this control.
Dumping syndrome is a group of digestive symptoms (nausea, palpitations, feeling unwell) that occurs when food moves too quickly from the stomach into the intestine. Because SADI-S keeps the pylorus, this risk is reduced.
See gastric bypassYes. As well as weight loss, SADI-S is specifically designed to improve weight-related health conditions (comorbidities), including diabetes.
The first stage of SADI-S, reducing the stomach, is the same as a gastric sleeve. It then adds an intestinal bypass, as a gastric bypass does, but with a single connection and with the pylorus kept in place, which a standard bypass does not do.
