How We Treat Gynecomastia
The technique depends on your skin. If only the gland has grown, we work through the edge of the areola. If there is also excess skin and the chest has started to sag, we remove it through an incision below the pectoral muscle. In both cases, the gland is sent for analysis and liposuction is used to refine the contour of the chest.
We remove the gland through an incision along the lower edge of the areola, which leaves an almost invisible scar.

We remove the excess skin, gland and fat through an incision below the pectoral muscle. This leaves the nipple in the wrong position, so we remove it, adjust its shape and size, and graft it back in the right place. The graft carries a risk of necrosis, meaning the grafted tissue may not take.

The price of gynecomastia surgery covers your preoperative assessment, the evaluation consultation, the operation and hospital stay, laboratory analysis of the removed gland, follow-up appointments and the follow-up ultrasound.
Because, as in women, this gland can develop cancer. That is why we always send it to the laboratory after gynecomastia surgery. The analysis is included in the price in both cases.
A local anesthetic with same-day discharge is for small to medium gynecomastia, the simple case. If excess skin has to be removed and the nipple grafted, we use a general anesthetic and you stay in the hospital for 24 hours.
Drains (small tubes that carry fluid away) do not reduce the risk of a collection of blood (hematoma) or fluid (seroma), and they increase the risk of infection. That is why Dr. Jesús Lago does not use them.
For the two weeks of recovery. The vest reduces the risk of a hematoma (a collection of blood). We adjust the timing at your follow-up appointments, depending on how you are recovering.
That depends on the extent of the surgery and on how you heal after the nipple graft. We talk it through with you at your consultation, before the operation.
