Gastric Band Removal

Gastric band removal is for a band you can no longer tolerate, or one that has caused a long-term complication, such as erosion, where the band works its way into the stomach wall. Once the band is out, your stomach returns to its original shape. Dr. Jesús Lago performs the operation at Clínica 3 de Mayo in Madrid, for patients from the UK, Ireland and beyond. The procedure costs €4,950, all-inclusive (quoted separately if we remove the band through the mouth after an erosion).

How a Gastric Band Is Removed

We usually operate through small incisions (laparoscopy), and occasionally through the mouth (endoscopy). We remove the band, its tube and the port under your skin. You stay in the hospital for one night and can get back to your usual activities after a week.
