Thigh surgery, thigh lift or crural lift, also known as cruroplasty, is an operation that consists of removing excess skin and fat from the thighs and restoring a smooth and firm appearance to the thighs. This procedure is performed on people of a certain age or people who have experienced massive weight loss. It can also be combined with thigh liposculpture to reduce the volume of the thighs and make the suture closure more secure.
There are two or even three types of thigh lifts: horizontal thigh lift, horizontal-medial thigh lift and the spiral thigh lift. These three types of thigh lifts are performed depending on the severity of the excess skin and fat and the desire for correction.
In the case of the horizontal thigh lift, we only make an incision in the inguinal crease at the front and in the subgluteal crease at the back, i.e. an incision in the groin along the entire contour that is completely hidden. This facelift is indicated for patients who do not have a large excess of skin, obtaining very good results with very little visible scarring.
When due to age or weight loss there has been a more significant drop in the skin of the thigh, we must also perform a resection around the entire perimeter of the thigh from the knee to the groin, in this case we will perform a horizontal-medial thigh lift which means making an incision in the groin as in the previous technique but also adding another incision on the inside of the thigh longitudinally from the knee to the groin. With this incision we will remove more excess fat and skin, the results will be better, and the scars will be barely visible as they are located on the inside of the thigh.
Lastly, when a patient comes to the consultation whose weight loss has been very significant, such as after bariatric surgery, we will also need to remove skin from the back and for this we will perform a spiral lift, this means, in addition to making the two incisions mentioned above, continuing with the inguinal incision on its anterior edge in a circumferential manner until reaching the upper face of the buttock. This will also allow us to remove the excess skin of the buttock and the back, thus making a complete repair of the entire contour.
In any of the three modalities, but fundamentally in the last two, it is important to bear in mind that the post-operative period is delicate and long, i.e. the patient must remain at home with considerable rest of the limbs in order to achieve correct healing.
It should be borne in mind that the area where the incisions are located is a moist area, close to the genital and rectal area and also of great importance for the patient's mobility. For this reason it is very important to protect the area by maintaining almost absolute rest at home for at least two weeks. For the same reason, a bladder catheter should be worn in the case of women to avoid wetting the incision area post-operatively.

All surgeries have a possible risk. The most important risk of this procedure is the poor healing of the sutures because they are located in humid and delicate areas. However, in the hands of professionals with experience in handling these situations, the risk of these wounds opening is small. For this reason, home care by the surgeon who performed the operation is important, as the person should not move around due to the risk of these wounds opening.
Yes, home visits are obligatory for people who have undergone a thigh lift because the patient does not must to travel for the first few weeks. Our healthcare staff will visit patients who have undergone a thigh lift to carry out the initial treatment, care and removal of the bladder catheter.
Yes, with a good indication from the surgeon and a good follow-up, the results of this procedure are excellent.
Groin scars can widen if the tension on the wound is too great. This is why the surgical technique and the surgeon's experience are very important to obtain good results, not only in general but also in terms of scar widening.
The most important thing is that the professionals who have intervened and attend to the patient are highly experienced and qualified and are able to resolve any complication derived from any intervention and carry it through without the slightest difficulty, guaranteeing the patient's safety and good long-term evolution. Whenever we are going to undergo surgery we should always put ourselves in the hands of suitable professionals and check their experience and qualifications.
Thigh lift prices can vary considerably. There are other details that must be taken into account before making a decision and which directly influence the final result of the operation.
At the Dr. Jesús Lago Institute we do not usually talk about the thigh lift in economic terms. We prefer to focus on each case, both from the point of view of the procedures to be carried out and the total cost, and to seek the success of the treatment on an individual basis. Thus, whenever you ask us how much a thigh lift costs, we will refer you to a direct consultation with our specialised surgeons.
Salvage surgeries are surgical treatments aimed at treating or modifying complications or negative results of a previous surgical treatment performed at another centre.
Below we will try to clarify some of the doubts that may arise before coming to our office and that may help you to make your decision.
